I started learning about hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”) in the mid 2010s when it was all the rave in the United States. Several books were published to help us learn about it. It filled a void that I needed being a new mom in a big metroplex of cities that were not my home. I missed my family, didn’t have a lot of friends, and was a first time mom. I needed to reconnect with that feeling of hygge.
But what exactly is hygge?
… a quality of presence and an experience of belonging and togetherness. It is a feeling of being warm, safe, comforted, and sheltered. – The Book of Hygge” by Louisa Thomson Brits
It’s the feeling of warmth and contentment that you get on the inside when you do certain things. – “Anna and Elsa’s Hygge Life: A Comfy, Cozy story” by Heather Knowles
